A&M is getting tougher all the time for a variety of reasons. It starts with the population explosion in Texas going from about 17 million in 1990 to about 27 million and growing fast (over 1k people a week) now. They eliminated any legacy admissions.
The Top 10% rule (guaranteeing admission to the Top 10% of HS grads in Texas) has become a huge problem because the disparity in the HS's is so great. It puts a kid from a garbage HS in the Top 10% as an auto admit but a kid from a top notch suburban HS in the Top 25% of his class and a high SAT can be unable to get in. In Austin there is a HS that you has more National Merit Finalists than Top 10% grads for example. It's a big reason why more and more Texas kids are going OOS for college because there is a big drop from A&M/Texas to the other public schools in Texas academically.
I see what you did there.
