No I think he's vastly overrated, but who really knows how good he will be until the season starts.
Flagship fans make a habit out of being blindly optimistic though. I had countless people in Fayetteville telling me JLS was taking us to an SEC championship.
Sadly, 2012 couldn't even bring people down to earth.

I think he was the best hire we could have made. On paper, he looks to be at the very least as good as Les Miles and Saban were WHEN THEY WERE ORIGINALLY HIRED BY LSU(put in bold so LSU fans don't misconstrue my post.)
He appears to be putting together a solid staff that ON PAPER should be better recruiters than we've had in decades. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE WILL BEAT LSU AND BAMA IN RECRUITING RANKINGS. But truth be told, the difference between a number 15 or so class(which we should be able to pull,) and a #25-35 class(which is usually about we've been getting) is pretty huge.
I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS WILL TRANSLATE INTO WINS. I am optimistic.
I remember Aggie fans lamenting the Sumlin hire, who now pretty much feel certain that a MNC is now assured under his leadership; I remember Auburn fans lecturing us about Cheezit when he won the cam-natty...look at them now; remember the first two years of Nutt at Ole Miss?; how about Urban Meyer's fall at Florida(after the nattys of course; I remember the Miles-to-LSU hire...didn't look too great at the time.
This is all a bit of a crap-shoot for all of us who did not hire Saban.
We'll see where we are in 2-3 years or so; we'll be able to judge BB then. Both Auburn and TAMU had quick success with new coaches, but both did it with outstanding Olines (that had been recruited by prior staffs) and unexpected individual stars on the D( Fairly for Aubs, Demontre More(sp?)for TAMU. I think Petrino's shitty Oline recruiting is going to bite us in the arse for a few years.
