I don't like this format one bit, for 2 reasons.
1)For starters, why the frick are we gonna reward a team that finished 12th out of 14 in the league? At that point, it should be fairly obvious that that team sucks pretty bad and has no business in the postseason. That'd be like letting a 4 win football team in a bowl game.
2)I hate that it starts as single elimination for almost everyone. That's one of the great things about the tourney, everybody has hope. You may lose the first game but hey..you aren't done yet. You can regroup and still make a run at the thing. Now, a team who finished 5th (and with as good as some of these teams like LSU, SC, UF, Arky, UK, etc are, the 5th place team could actually be really good) could head out after only 3 hours. That just doesn't seem right.
