As a die-hard SEC fan that has been to UNC and NC State football games, NC State's atmosphere is better and it ain't even close. In fact ECU would be a better fit from a game day atmosphere. I know that there are a ton of other reasons, but for pure football entertainment - State all the way.
By the way - Duke is largely irrelevant in NC (at least in the parts I have been in). Nationally, they are a huge draw, though.
