I amazed how difficult this simple concept is for some people. No Georgia is not the best defense against the run in college football. However, they are very good and much better than stats imply.
Not only did UGA have suspensions but they were big ones. One is projected by many as a top 20 pick in the NFL draft next season. The other was an All-American. Combine that with the fact that Jones was hobbled during a large span...a guy who many think is the NFL's top prospect this season.
You should also consider how many players had to play out of position to feel the gaps of the missing players. As a result, when the players returned they were playing in their normal position for the first time as well.
Georgia's first 16 players on defense are as good as any in college football. However, because of low scholarship numbers (65 I believe). For UGA they go from a safety All-American to a walk in.
Georgia has been able to avoid injuries in all of but two spots (LB,WR) but those were their deepest positions.
