Texas has given Aggies plenty of reason to be paranoid in the past, esp with their control of the DMN which launched multiple investigations on A&M and of course SMU that derailed both progams along with their control of the NCAA infractions committee for 3 decades through Charles Allan Wright (who stayed involved even after he stepped down as Chair). They just don't have that kind of clout anymore and they especially don't now that we aren't in their conference. Messing with A&M now = messing with the SEC and that is something Texas simply can't do. They will go ahead and treat the rest of the Big 12 like their bitch though. Feel sorry for those schools.

aggressor, the DMN didn't break the SMU story, it was the Dallas Times Herald & Channel 8, primarily Dale Hansen, a Nebraska grad. Regardless, SMU was doing some real dirty shite back then and it needed investigating. Hell, even the Gov of Texas, Clements, was involved in the hush money payouts by allowing them to continue.

As for A&M's problems back then, wasn't Warren Gilbert, the Ag booster who was paying Greg Hill & others to do nothing, the real evil one? Why would you blame Texas for this? Did Texas initiate the media investigation? I don't know, but even if they did, who should get the greater blame, the booster who was committing the crime or UT?

But let's set all of that aside. A&M is in the SEC now. Do you think that violations like the ones above are going to go unnoticed by your SEC sister schools? You might ask Bama fans about Tenn's involvement in ratting them out several years ago. If A&M does anything which merits an investigation today, you won't have to worry about Texas. You'll have 13 other SEC schools calling their favorite media guy wanting negative stories generated. If you haven't noticed, the SEC is more cut-throat when it comes to competing programs not operating on the up & up. Being in the same division as Bama, LSU, Ark, etc. will not let A&M off the hook, whether the problem is real or not.

The problems Jackie had and the Warren Gilbert story were both started with the DMN. Were they breaking the rules? Sure, but so was the entire conference. Texas was worse than any of them and always has been but with Charles Allen Wright (a UT prof) running the NCAA enforcement committee for decades and having his fingerprints on every SWC investigation after he officially stepped down as Chair it didn't matter. Texas had a ring of paying players with STATE jobs that made SMU look pedestrian but barely got a hand slap. You remind me of an Obama supporter that truly thinks they "Will have the most open and honest Administration in history."

All schools cheat outside of a few that aren't serious about football, part of it is just what the definition of cheating is. The key is how good they are at twisting the NCAA rules like a pretzel or not leaving a paper trail. The SEC is still pattycake compared to the cutthroat SWC where you had 8 schools in the same state competing for the same recruits. The SEC at this point is a money printing organization and it is no coincidence that while there has been lots of smoke in recent years there has been no fire from the NCAA in recent years. It is bad business. If you think that the other SEC schools have a desire to mess with A&M as the SEC essentially has a Billion dollar investment in the Texas market in the next decade or so you are also naive.
