From Dave Matter's Twitter.

Sounds like a clash of the titans is ensuing.

I think the staff has done a phenomenal job. Is changing the staff actually an issue?

Couldnt even keep a straight face on that one.

UTEP. UTEP. UTEP. UTEP.

If I chant it maybe they'll hire Yost. It's our only hope.

I'll join in the UTEP cheers. I just feel to make a head coaching change at this point would just be difficult because we are late to the game and I don't want the next hire to be done hastily or knee jerk. So Yost to UTEP, GP stays to fix things next year with a new OC.

UTEP! UTEP! UTEP!

Is there actual talk of Yost to UTEP, or is this an inside joke that I'm not in on?

You all are fricking with my emotions!

Yes. He is on their shortlist. Amazingly, outside of Missouri David Yost is very fondly regarded. Huard had him on his Top 5 assistant coaches at the beginning of the year.

Well, Yost is a good recruiter. I wish he never would've been promoted to OC. I wish Christiansen wouldn't have left.

Oh well...it is what it is.

At anyone giving 2 shits about a conference call qoute about staff changes. Did you really expect him to say he's canning his assistants during the week of a game?

There is an article that says he is 1 of 3 coaches being considered.

The 1 guy with experience as a HC is that schmuck that failed at Colorado when we beat them a combined 432-7 over those 2 years.

This.

This.

And This.

If there is one thing we know about GP is he treats his listeners with great disrespect. He talks to them like they're 12 year old children. It's been fun watching a guy like Saban or Les Miles get interviewed, they at least tell you a few things... not GP.

And even if he did give us more than generic 'coach speak', no coach would admit to canning assistants while the season is still going.

Yep.

Its like throwing chum in the waters. The torches and pitchforks are in a full frenzy right now.

Pinkel isnt getting fired. He may or may not make changes to the staff in the offseason.

Nothing to see here honestly.

Coaches will be leaving, but they will be leaving for promotions. GP isn't going to fire anyone. Not how he rolls.

My hope is that when he makes new hires, it's not "from within". We need some new blood.

With that being said, I still think he's gone.

If anyone has paid any attention to how Alden opperates they should know Pinkel isnt going anywhere after this year. Same stuff next year? Then its a strong possibility.

I completely agree with this.

We will be making our staff changes. We will call for a few more coaches from WYO once DC gets fired to replace people.

Lord I don't, hate how much cushion we always give WR's no matter the situation. 7 Yard cushion on 3rd an 1 just doesn't make sense.

Steck has been a mixed bag, I have liked some things he has done (mulit DE pass rush front, blitz packages vs UGA) hate other things soft coverage, Tampa 2 without adjustments for uderneath routes (see USC, Vandy or Syracuse) and his inability to get in Ford's arse about his DB's coverage technique. Steck's collapsing defense is also a huge issue. Teams have adjusted to his scheme and raped us in the 4th qtr all year. This is not just fatigue but they begin to find holes. But like I said a mixed bag he has made some pretty good halftime adjustments as well.
