I think this is all very premature.

I dont think Pinkel is getting fired.

I'm not sure how old some of you are but this AD needs to tread very lightly with movement towards a coaching change. This very scenario has played out two other times after some success and higher expectations. Coaches were replaced by people who couldn't do the job and then the program plunged into some dark times.

We are not a blue-blood. A bad hire could set the program back a decade or more. It could also irreparably harm the program and its image in this new conference which will hurt recruiting for years and years. A bad hire could also dry up fan support as well as donor money.

Im not saying that changes dont need to be made but this is not a program that can flip coaches on a whim and if a mistake is made and rely on the history and mystique of the program to help in the recovery.

Gary Pinkel should be given another year and a healthy team to see where things go. If we have a repeat then I would be on board for blowing this thing up but I am not, even though I am personally as frustrated as the next guy, ready to knee jerk fire a coach that has led this program back from the dark ages based on a shitty season mired by injuries and the difficulty exponentially increased by a move to the toughest conference in the country.

Im for cooler heads and reasoned and rational and not knee jerk and emotion driven.

I think Pinkel deserves a free pass for a bad season. The off the field stuff is what concerns me.

Agree.

I don't think he's getting fired. I think Alden has the same rational mindset that you display.

I will be surprised if we don't see some type of changes with the staff though.

ETA: I agree with that as well urhatinit

I don't. It's been festering.

I do. Only because he's going to be stubborn about coaching changes. If everyone else sees that there needs to be changes but him, then he needs to go.

I'll add to this that I wish GP didn't speak to the fans like we're brain dead (although a lot are). He takes 'coach speak' to new heights. That is a reason I have a hard time supporting the guy, still don't think Alden pulls the trigger.

When?

During the Brad smith years? Chase Daniel years? Blaine Gabbert year? Those players epitomize some of the greatest football played in Mizzou history outside Devine in the 60's

Or is it mostly based on this year?

I dont know man. We all want this thing to go in the right direction.

I really hope the hotheads dont get their way.

My concern is his unwillingness to make changes to the staff. I can see it becoming a power thing between GP and Alden (powers that pull his strings). Ideally, I think GP should stay but make the necessary changes. The question is: What do you do when he refuses?

What does a boss do when the employee refuses to do something? Do you really think Alden is going to tell Pinkel "Ok do whatever you want." And if he does, how do you explain that to the Big Money people? They are the ones fueling our chances in the SEC. You must keep them happy.

So from all of that...you tell me what happens.

Kilo, I tend to agree with you for the most part. BUT...I think his personal issues are a significant driver here. The man is out at the bars 2-3 nights every week. Moneyed boosters see this as evidence he's not taking his job, which he's paid quite well to do, seriously enough. Some of the good will he's enjoyed has eroded. I was told by some former players last weekend that he's a completely different coach than he was 5 years ago, and it seems like mentally he's kind of developed a "what are you gonna do to me?" attitude.

If, as has been discussed, he's fighting making any staff changes, I can see a scenario where he's told to make them or retire. Who knows which he would choose at this point.

And as far as not being a "blue blood" program, you're right, we're not. But, we have a lot of things going for us right now too. I don't want to see us limit ourselves by considering ourselves below other schools in some way. We should be thinking what's the best available - not what's the best we think we can get because we're 2nd tier. IF we end up making a coaching change, we need to talk to the best out there and sell Mizzou. Not 2nd tier talent because that's all we think we can get. Our goals and expectations should be high.

I don't think anyone would accuse Alden of being overly reactionary. He way overpaid CMA trying to retain stability in the basketball program, IMO. So I'd say that if Alden pulls the trigger, there will have been significant issues behind the scene which will be the driving forces in the change.

It's also much easier to defend keeping a coach who's had a lot of success (relatively) than hiring a new coach. If the Haith hiring was an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 in importance for Alden's job evaluation, then a football coach hire in the SEC will be about a 13. He's no dummy. He knows this. He's not going to get ahead of himself. Just IMO.

Well, it started when he installed an unproven QB coach in at OC, because he was "his guy", it has continued with his poor game management, DUI, player frick ups, and smug overall attitude.

I guess festering isn't the right word to use, but I've been frustrated for awhile, but have been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

That changed on Saturday night for me, then this latest revelation of losing Ramirez tells me there's more to what's happening than meets the eye.

unless his off the field activities are getting to be a problem I do not believe he will be gone. He does deserve another year. Plus how many better programs are looking for coaches this year? Too many to get a good coach.

If he does not make any moves this off season and the results are the same then go get a coach. Too many schools in your own conference looking for coaches this year.

I'm right there with you. Time to blow it up. I said in another thread it was time find the coach that can take us to the next level. That has to be the goal. Where we are and have been is not good enough. I don't give a damn if we are not a blue blood Alden needs to go find us the next big thing. Don't miss either like you did with Quinn either.

I share the same concern. A great many factors affect the outcome of a season, but an unacceptable factor, is a head coach that can't or won't make changes when such need of change is blatantly obvious to the general public.
