It was the Friday before Mother's Day weekend, and J had suggested a date night. We had a very busy weekend planned between visiting both families as well as a friend's birthday. I was thinking maybe Chili's and a movie, but he had other plans.

He told me we hadn't been into Faneuil Hall in Boston in a while, so we should go there for dinner. Now my wheels were turning. I emailed my friend Kelli to get her thoughts. She told me I was crazy and that he probably wanted just wanted to go out before the hectic weekend events. She completely talked me out of it and I was none the wiser!

I woke up the next day (which was a beautiful day) and went to work thinking nothing of our date night. We met up at home after work and caught the train into the city. On the train I was gabbing about work and other nothingness while J was apparently sweating and ready to throw up on his shoes!

We got into Faneuil Hall and it was a gorgeous night out. J suggests that we kick off date night with a horse and carriage ride. So of course again I start thinking "Oh my god, is this it?" But again I stopped myself, "No way, this doesn't happen to real people! This isn't a movie!" So off we went on the carriage ride.

We were cruising through the financial district when he finally turned to me with the most incredible custom designed ring I have ever seen and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him. It was the sweetest, most romantic, amazing thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life. People were clapping on the sides of the street. It was phenomenal! (And I'm not gonna lie, every ounce of engagement etiquette I knew went out the window. I totally took the ring out of the box myself and put it on my own finger. I was a little excited!)

We returned to Faneuil Hall newly engaged and walked arm and arm while I told everyone with ears how I had just got engaged! (We had to walk arm and arm because I couldn't take my eyes off the bling!) We had dinner outside at a corner table overlooking all the lights of Faneuil Hall, drinking champagne and celebrating for the rest of the night.

We have been together 10 years and he still managed to completely surprise me! This is definitely the man I am meant to spend my life with! By the way, Kelli was in on the whole thing, and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for keeping the secret and helping with the most wonderful day of my life!
