Possible stupid question

I've seen a lot of posts stating that Freeze is trying to protect the defense by slowing our tempo. How is that not a total bullshite excuse?
Wouldn't the best way to "protect" our defense be scoring like fricking crazy? If we score 40 points it won't matter how fast we score.

Yeah scoring like crazy is a great way to protect the defense.. but taking 30 seconds to go three and out multiple times can hurt the defense too.
I guess he feels like the offense isn't there yet in terms of reliability to stay on the field long enough for the defense to get a break when they move at the fast tempo. That would be my only guess.

I think it means slow it down because while speeding it up has helped us, sometimes we go 3 and out and take about 1 minute off the clock and then our D has to go right back out there. Especially in the second half.

That's the risk of the hunh, but it's not going to work properly unless you sell out and go full speed.
This slowed down version that has us snapping the ball with 10 seconds on the play clock isn't working. It allows the defense way too much time to adjust and that defeats the whole purpose.
It just seems like a necessary risk to go all out at this point to me. I'd rather put my faith in our offense than our defense at this point.

Scoring too fast puts your defense on the field for too many minutes. It is easy to see now that we are very tired even in the 2nd quarter. Tired will get you hurt, and that is something that we cannot afford, especially on defense. I am sure Freeze knows that Ole Miss can't compete with size with the likes of Alabama, LSU, etc. so he is going to try to tire them out by running them up and down the field. But we gotta remember, we are still dealing will Nutt's shitty strength and conditioning efforts here, and this fast pace is killing our guys moreso than the other team at this point.

Look at the last 6 min of the A&M game. We were completely gassed on defense. If we ran HUNH all the time and got some 1 and 2 min drives our defense would be on the field close to 40 min. We are thin as shite as it is and cant deal with that. Look at he Oregon D. They run 4 new linemen in every 3 plays. They have got to the point where they have depth so they can run hunh all game. We just arent there yet.
