A lot of Bama fans already realized that the secondary was a little shaky this year (relatively speaking, they are still pretty good, but not really elite in coverage skills). What happened Saturday night was a combination of Mettenberger playing a hell of a game (did the light come on for good or was this one of those singular games QBs have sometimes ala Garcia against Bama in 2010?) and also Alabama's secondary showing that it has some issues.

It's not like Alabama's defense, even the pass defense, is bad. They certainly bent on Saturday but did not break in a hostile environment with very little help from the Bama offense in the second half. They were on the field all night and still only gave up 17 points. If that is an off night for the defense, then I'll take it. A lot of teams would absolutely kill for their defense to only give up 17 on the road in a game like that when the opposing QB is definitely on his game.

They are not one of the GOAT defenses like last year, but they are still among the best if not the best in the country again.
