Is this the calm before the storm?

There was lots of talk last week after the USCe loss. Not so much this week after a victory. I hope its not the calm before the ensuing shite storm after a loss to Vandy.

You talking about calm on here? Or from the team?
I was just thinking that the talk has dropped off big time on here from Mizzou fans.
I think its in part due to a refocus on the Cardinals. That initial hype is over with Georgia and USC. Plus things haven't gone to well for us yet, so not much to holler about.

I will (or should) be at the game this weekend. I have my Mizzou Meltdown Thread on standby...

Kills,
Keep it on stand by, but don't bump it. A premature bump for a thread like that could mean bad things on the horizon.
I for one have a feeling that we get our first SEC win, and the folks on the rant will say its because Vandy sucks. Even though they've been telling us to "watch out" for Vandy all season.
Kinks getting ironed out this week, for an all out futile assault on bama next week.

I think we win this weekend. Expect to lose to Bama though. Sorry if that makes me a bad fan, but I just don't think we have the personnel to win that game. I also think we lose at Florida. The other games should be potentially winnable, and I expect good games with Tennessee and A&M. JMO.

Semo totally agree with your analysis there.
I truly believe anything less than 7 wins will be a step back, so lets shoot for 7 or more!

7 has been my goal for this team since I saw the sked. Lets hope they get there. I'll be happy with that.

This, this, so much this.
I'll admit to being one of the guys that thought we'd split UGA/USCe and lose to the Bammers. After the games I've seen so far, I'd be ecstatic with this.

Call me a "Pollyanna," but I never expect Mizzou to lose. That doesn't mean I deny the possibility, just that I think any given team can lose a game in which they were favored to win. (Painful example was the Cinderella Norfolk State upset over Mizzou in the first round of NCAA basketball tournament last March.)
Of course, the fans who are actually attending a game can provide a loud, supportive environment, hence the home advantage can be a positive factor. But we all know a home team can end up with a loss, if the visitor is playing better.
I don't want the players on the team expecting to lose, so I never do either. Even if our team is facing Goliath, I think they can be David. Sometimes the fat lady is singing before it's over and that causes fan disappointment. But what fan could be more disappointed than the players and the coaching staff?
I just can't bring myself to accept a loss, until it happens, I live it one game at a time, thinking they might win, but could lose. I would not attend or view a game, if I expected a loss. No fun or thrill in that for me. I'm not delusional, though. If they finish the season with 8 or 7 wins, it will have been a good inaugural year in their new conference.

You lost at hence. I scanned the rest.
I was at a local watch party, and an alum with a kid that is a GA on the football team said the coaching staff only expects to win six games this year, given the schedule.
I acted like a real life message board poster and said that was very disappointing. Everyone defended the staff. I was amazed.
Maybe I'm an a-hole, and I never expect a loss, but I sure as shite expect the coaches after over a decade to go into every game expecting to win, and planning on going each season undefeated.
Might not happen, but coming in hoping to barely be bowl eligible with one of your games against SELA pisses me off.

God that is unbelievable. I know there was a talent discrepancy, but for them to expect only 6 wins is ridiculous. I really hope this staff wants to get better because 6 wins will not be acceptable in the future

Not sure what you mean by that, maybe your response was directed to some other post.
Sounds more like we share a similar mindset, from reading the entirety of your message. It's a huge disappointment to me if coaching staff is truly putting out message that only six wins are "expected." But, I maintain a degree of skepticism about second-hand information, even if the source seems credible.

I totally agree with your sentiment on this point.
