Can someone explain the origins of the name? I seem to have missed its introduction and universal acceptance.

I believe its from high school. The fact that he has a ton of self confidence and doesn't back down from any situation.

doesn't Jim Rome do a bit where he adds "freaking" as the middle name to stud guests? I haven't listened to Rome in a long, long time. But I have a vague recollection of him doing that.
