Completely agree except for the part about me being dumb as a rock.

Lawyers make money because of excessively complicated laws and legal procedures that require lawyers to navigate, just like CPA's love the several thousand page tax code. You will never hear lawyers and accountants calling for a simplified or common sense anything. It's self perpetuating. Lawyers need lots of needless laws so they become politicians and make more needless laws and support politicians who make needless laws.
