preseason polls are stupid, but if they must do them then to me the only logical thing to do is just to rank everybody where they were ranked at the end of last season. At least that is based on what teams earned instead of guesses analysts

It's based on what the teams earned a year ago. They haven't earned anything yet in the current year, so why just put them all down wherever they finished last? I guess UGA should be ranked about 20th right now then?

Pre-season polls are useless.
They exist though - so may as well rank every team in the exact same spot that they finished the previous season. It'll all shake out when the season commences anyway.
