I think it makes no sense whatsoever... how many times have we even had a repeat champion. The previous year's NC almost never repeats, therefore does not deserve a #1 ranking in the preseason.

This is what I think. If a team wins the title then replaces 18 starters, they are pretty much a different team. Now if they returned a bunch of starters , I could see ranking them #1, but not soley because they won the title the year before. That's what this gentleman was saying.
