Taking kicks at the start of practice: Onterio McCalebb, Tre Mason, Robenson Therezie, Jonathan Jones, Ricardo Louis and Jovon Robinson. With McCalebb, Mason and Therezie all possibly playing key roles, one of the three freshmen could get a shot there.

On punts, it was Quan Bray, Trovon Reed, Joshua Holsey and Demetruce McNeal. Unless Holsey is dynamite back there, the likely returner is either Bray or Reed, as it was last year.

Jake Lembke was handling deep snapping duties, along with walk-on Michael Sulka.

With Holsey and Jones taking kicks, they weren’t doing pre-practice drills with the rest of the defensive backs, but freshman T.J. Davis was lined up with the corners. Both Holsey and Jones are smaller players, indicating they will probably be on the outside as well.

As he was in the spring, Blake Burgess was working with the tight ends and wearing No. 48.
