I'd counter that, with Mike Sherman, we were closer to a 7-loss season than a 1-loss season.
Case in point: Week 5 at Texas Tech.
Halftime score was 31-20 A&M. In the second half, we went into classic meltdown mode. In the third Quarter, Tech was driving and ready to kick a FG to cut the lead to 5 (they later scored a TD right afterwards) but special teams came through with Terrence Frederick returning a blocked FG 65 yards for the score. After Tech cut the lead to 45-40, I was certain that they would recover the onside kick and find a way to win, but we pulled it out.
The Baylor game was the only game in which we used the middle of the field (how do you think Swope tore them up so badly?)

I agree--as close as we were to attaining great heights, we were just as close to the abyss.
Makes me mad every time I think about it. We stuck with what was working the ENTIRE game, and it paid off. What was so hard about that?

It will never happen but I would love to sit down with Sherman and ask him:
1. Why wouldn't you pass over the middle?
2. Why wouldn't you hire an Offensive Coordinator.
3. Everyone (opponent's and home fans could see it start to drift away after the first series of the second half, why didn't he see it.
4. We beat RGIII like a drum. No one else did. Why didn't we copy that?
5. Why stick with an obviously hurt QB? He couldn't throw the ball and it was no secret to opposing teams. I mean even Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could see it.
6. What was the deal with Jeff Fuller?
The deciding factor was loosing to Missouri, at home, in OT. I don't want to dis my fellow SEC refugee's but losing to Missouri, at Kyle Field, in OT? No excuse for that.
It would never happen but I would love to get a non coach speak answer.
And I liked Sherman and wish him well with the Dolphins.
