Monticello does have a pretty serious bias against Mizzou joining the SEC. I agree though, his analysis in this thread is quite good.

I will tell you why I was not very excited about Missouri:

Desire: aTm's dream was to join the SEC. Missouri is here because the Big Ten (their more natural fit) turned them down. Fans don't run college football. Universities with elitist, academia minded administrators run college football. The Big Ten is athletically, geographically and academically by far the best fit for Missouri. The Big Ten turned you down, not because you are not good enough, but because it is ridiculously conservative and slow moving. But sometime in the next 10-20 years, the Big Ten will need to expand again and Mizzou (along with ND) will be their top target. I think your academic minded administrators will leave the SEC high and dry at around the same time all the good programs have found a home in a Big 4 conference. I don't want that negative perception and I don't want the SEC to have to pick up scraps because there is nothing left.
