Most of the topics they polled had no clear cut winners, except for a few that really stood out to me. Saban was by far considered the most intimidating coach and the vast majority of recruits considered a winning tradition to be the most overrated recruiting pitch.
quote:
Of all the head coaches you've talked to, who was the most intimidating?
Nick Saban, Alabama: 30 votes
Lane Kiffin, USC: 5
Will Muschamp, Florida: 4
The buzz: There may not have been a more clear-cut choice in this entire survey.

Gene Chizik, Auburn: 8 votes
Mack Brown, Texas: 6
Lane Kiffin, USC: 5
Steve Sarkisian, Washington: 5
The buzz: The two coaches in college football's most heated rivalry apparently create entirely different impressions in their discussions with recruits.

Is this the part where Bama fans come in and say they don't care if their coach punches nuns in the faces and calls them whores, as long as he wins games?
Because I agree.
Because I agree.

Imagine how bad he would dominate if he took his dentures along on visits.

What's interesting psychologically is that America's best recruiter is also the most intimidating and least friendly coach out there. It just goes to show that people assume all kids want smiles and hugs when in reality a huge number of them are craving structure, discipline and clear expectations. Of course many prefer the likeable and warm type as evidenced by Chizik and Mack Brown's success.

I think you're really on to something with this "people have different tastes" hypothesis. Tell me more.

Not aiming this at the original post/revelation, but some of the responses are laughable.

Some folks like trashy tattooed biker bitches, and some like lily-white college grads....
and some like 'em both.

Not sure you're looking at it the right way. It's not that Saban gets more recruits with his style of harassery (its unpossible), but his style attracts the 5-stars. The ones who pan out like his attitude.
I'd wager that in all honesty, most kids do want it easy, even if they don't realize hard is better for them.

Since they didn't do a most irrelevant coach poll, you should just stay out of this thread.

They must not have given them an option for "gets players to the NFL."

Like water. Path of least resistance. However, the studs that want more will be hard to beat.

That bodes well for UA with DB's.

You may be right. I could see where his style would appeal to the already driven and confident athlete that is totally focused on the NFL and just wants a no nonsense coach to get them there. I think parents like Saban's style in the living room too because its so different from what they are used to seeing.
