Also now reported that former 2010 commitment and Calhoun County LB Brandon Golson has apparently committed:

quote:

#15 may not be far behind. A source said Tuesday night LB Brandon Golson of Georgia Military JC is ready to commit to the Gamecocks. Golson contacted his Gamecock recruiter Joe Robinson Tuesday night and told him of his decision. Golson plans to visit USC Wednesday. The source said the Gamecocks are willing to take Golson's commitment. Golson also has offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Arizona, Ole Miss and Middle Tennessee State. He had 24 tackles with 7 sacks last season. Golson prepped at Calhoun County and originally signed with USC out of high school.

Apparently Golson went ahead as planned and committed today on his visit, and the USC coaches have accepted.

Golson's story is a unique one...he was a
sleeper" prospect for USC ever since the summertime in 2009 when he worked out in person for then-DC and LB coach Ellis Johnson for 20 minutes, and Johnson offered him on the spot. In his junior year in high school, Golson played his first year of organized football but only played 6 games due to having that year ended from injuries sustained in an auto accident. In those 6 games, Golson reportedly recorded 76 tackles and 18 QB sacks. By the time his high school career was done at Calhoun County, Golson had totaled 48 sacks and 191 tackles. In only 20 career games!

Fast & Furious: Brandon Golson

Golson was all set to sign with USC, but his test scores were too low, and he had to go the prep school route. Then in 2011, USC admissions found a discrepancy with his test scores and it would not allow him to enroll mid-term, so Golson ended up enrolling at Louisville instead (Miami was also in the running).

But then the NCAA Clearinghouse red-flagged those same test scores, so Golson had no other choice but to go the JUCO route, and attended Georgia Military College.

Now 6-2 and 230-240, Golson had 17 sacks in 10 games at GMC in '11. Her is some highlight video:
