And indeed Bama was going through a rough time before Saban. If I remember correctly Bama was turned down by several HC candidates and even in Saban's 1st year Bama was 6-7. But Spurrier's point was with all its history and resources Bama puts into having a successful football program that all you need is a decent coach, go through the steps of recruiting, and you'll be able to have X amount of success. Something that cannot be said for an SC or a Duke.

This, while true, is somewhat inaccurate within the context of the quote.

All that you can count on from the "Bama" name, resources and devotion from the fanbase is an occasional nine to ten win season.

This is about the level which transcends that. Undefeated seasons and championships.

If it were the case that 'Bama had that kind of cachet, then the same could easily be said about Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Southern Cal, Penn State, Tennessee or even...

wait for it...

Difference though I feel like is that those poor fools in South Bend are truly trying to run on name-sake alone. Bama realized its position and did something about. I have no idea what ND's weight-room / lounge area facilities are nice but it only takes a 2 second glance at the TV to tell that Bama plays in a far superior venue. I also feel like the state of AL has much better high school talent than IN so that gives Bama another natural advantage.

BTW I have no idea what Indiana high school talent is like but seems like it would be worse than AL's right?
