Well in his defense, is there anyone outside Arkansas that DOESN'T despise Petrino?
Yeah he is probably one of the least liked personalities in college football.
I still doubt Arkansas ever fires the best coach they will ever have over something as trivial as this.

He hired her last week. Gave her a paid position in the Arkansas football offices. Arkansas can't overlook that.
Not to mention the fact that she was engaged with another University of Arkansas employee.

it's how it starts, ask Bruce Pearl.
The Media can get a coach fired, if they want to get the general populous worked up enough.
CBS starts it, before you know it Skip Bayless is calling for his dismissal, then Herbstreit, then literally every idiot with a radio show, then bam. ya done.

So I guess Gus will finally get his dream job after all.

It's not trivial when it violates their bylaws. A fling is not something to get worked up about, but the fact that she was a University of Arkansas employee, and the fact that it was Petrino who hired her not more than a week ago takes it to a whole new level. Long may not want to fire him but the University of Arkansas president may have the final say in the matter. Because the fact that this scandal involved university employees makes this a question of ethics. And no university president wants to see their school in this kind of a bad light.

I'd prefer Garrick for continuity, but there's a bit of baggage there. Hiring Gus would really irk stAte fans - and Nutt.

I think he keeps his job. Arkansas knew what kind of character they were hiring when they hired him away from Atlanta Falcons.

I don't think it's the character they are worried about, it's the stupidity.

Gregg Doyel despises Petrino. No surprise that he would write that article.
OK...Doyel despises Petrino.
But what did Doyel say that was untrue?
Petrino exposed the university to possible lawsuits by Dorrell, her finacé, and every person out there who applied for the job she was given.

So AU will only have two L in the west next season.

How can the University keep him and not set a terrible precedent that'll bite them in the butt every time an employee violates their contract or employment regulations? I really think the personnel issue takes it out of the AD's hands. I don't see how they can make an exception for him and have any credibility on employment matters for state employees going forward.

They'll keep him. He makes the university way too much $$$ to can him over this. Any lawsuit liability is negligible compared to the revenue generated.
What can get him fired is one of two things. First, if more Hog fans get pissed off about this. I'm borderline pissed, still processing the information. Second, if Long finds more damaging information that Petrino doesn't confess.
What a freaking stupid situation. I may very well be back to cheering my school while despising the coach.

This kind of reminds me of the Terry Bowden-Bobby Lowder's daughter alledged scandal.

You're one of the few not viewing this from a private sector angle. This is state government, which takes this to a completely different level.
