Ms State ....Plenty fit that bill, including Smart, a 34-year-old who took VCU to the Final Four last year. But Smart might be a tough get for the Bulldogs.

One coach who's not: Sean Woods, Mississippi Valley State's fourth-year, 41-year-old coach and a guy both national experts mentioned.

Woods led Valley to the NCAA Tournament after the Delta Devils won 20 of 21 games against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams this year.

Contacted on Thursday, Woods didn't play coy.

"I would love to be the next head coach at Mississippi State," he said. "I would definitely bring excitement, a brand of basketball a lot of people like to see and watch."

Another top name is Steve Prohm, 37, whose Murray State Racers are 31-1 after Thursday's NCAA win.

Then there's the older guys - Marshall of Wichita State, Middle Tennessee State's Kermit Davis, a former State player, and Southern Miss' Larry Eustachy.

Assistants might be in the mix too - Cunningham, Robert Kirby, a longtime former State assistant now at Georgetown,

He was a student at Alabama the exact same time I was and was a water boy/equipment manager for the team at the time. Pretty cool to see someone like that have success and work their way up the coaching ladder.

Kermit Davis

Should be at the top of the list on name alone.
