When did Alabama become a "middle of the road" program? While the last five years haven't been ideal, and we haven't have the CWS success of others, we are still one of the winningest baseball programs in SEC history.

I'm not sure that qualifies the program as anything but a middle of the road program. There are a lot of teams outside the SEC that have had a tad bit of success. This isn't football. Being in the middle in the SEC isn't exactly crushing it nationally.
