High school football is more popular in South La, with the exception of West Monroe. I think there is more emphasis on football here then there is in North LA. In my experiences, South LA more often has better teams, with the exception of a few of the North LA teams which are traditionally good.

As you get closer to the state line up north the inability to tackle decreases, while the chances to see Mel Kipper-ish helmet hair increases

you would probably get more indepth and better answers asking this on the msb. A good chunk of them follow high school ball way more closely than what you will find here.

When you look at schools like West Monroe, Evangel, Byrd, etc they are different then most of the North LA teams. When I was in grad school in CENLA, it blew my mind that high school and middle school football just wasn't very popular. It seems like the further south you go, the more popular it is. My brother started playing football when he was 6, I believe. Most kids at the school I was working at never touched a football until middle school. When you get to Crowley and places like that, football is life. I think that kids starting at a younger age make them better athletes.

No, just different in culture. Catholics tend to party in the open. Baptists and other non-denominational people don't. Plus, SLA has more Jews. Always a plus IMO.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. From what I have seen, kids start playing at a younger age down here and there is a lot more emphasis on football down here.

I'll have to disagree, the north eastern part of the state has started to put out a lot of talent and win more state champs now a days like Neville(Monroe), Bastrop, West Monroe, OCS(which is a small school in monroe that seems to be good every year in football)

Louisiana College??
Looks like the Monroe area of North LA dominated the state championships last season?

south la is better in many aspects but the top half of north la football is pretty stout. I think the south has talent more spread out and the north its concentrated in a few schools.
outside of football south la is even better than north la

Iffin' you dig art, culture and crime I'd suggest the state's most famous city

Did I not mention West Monroe? I did forget about Bastrop. Like I said, there are a few traditional North LA football powerhouses. You just don't see the excitement in general there like you do here.
Eta: I think population has a lot to do with it too. Take New Orleans for instance. The talent is spread out among many schools vs 1 or 2.
