Yes people were pissed and drunk but like i said im betting his lil smartass comment is what set the whole thing off. So the dude isn't completely innocent in all of this. Next time he will learn to keep walking. There is no reasoning or joking with drunk pissed off people, the worst thing you can do is make some comment even if you think its being nice. they are likely to snap so when you do decide to make your cute comment you should probably have your hands up.

also its possible the whole bump and comment thing didn't happen. He could have bumped into something that wasn't his business and tried to be a peace keeper and gotten dropped. it sounds better for him to make up the story of i did nothing.
