Bama does have all the AP and the UPI and the BCS and the Bowl Alliance trophies in the Bryant Museum. Things were done different in different eras. The AP and the UPI use to vote on the Champs before the bowl games (wasn't many in those days and they were just a reward for the team anyway).

Oh I know how it worked back then. I took a class on the history of southern football this year
