you deem fit? I'm in a debate regarding this question and I would appreciate serious answers.

That's a really tough question. Literally the ONLY thing he's missing is a national title. But I mean really, is gene chizik a better coach than Richt? frick no. I think Richt has proven over his 11 year career that he is a very, VERY good coach. It all depends on what you want to consider great. If a coach can be great without winning a national title, then the answer is yes. If it is a requirement to win it all to be great, then no.

I like Richt. He's a good coach and above that, he's a class act. While he's no Les Miles, he has that kind of personal character.

Any school would be lucky to have him as coach, IMO.

Good but not great. Richt underachieves with the talent he recruits.

You know the answer, none, so I assume that's a "no".

Chris Peterson is a good coach. But I agree that you have to hold a someone coaching at Georgia to higher standards than someone directing Boise State.

I think he's a really good coach, but he's been at UGA so long a great coach would have won one by now.

Here's a better question:

If FSU had made a routine field goal in 2002 and we played and beat OSU for the national title would he be great then? If LSU had somehow lost to UT in the 07 SECCG and we played and beat OSU for the title would he be great then?

My ultimate point is, for those that say he isn't great, is the ONLY reason that he doesn't have a title? Because he's had NC caliber teams twice, but hasn't gotten into the game. UF (twice), LSU (twice), and hypothetically bama this year have all gotten a shot at a NC with a loss, but it didn't work out for Richt in his 2 years.

Florida state missing a FG shouldn't be the deciding factor is Richt is great or average. That doesn't make a lick of sense.

He is possibly the best QB Coach in the country

His track record at the position includes:

-2 Heisman trophy winners
-At the time the all time winningest QB in NCAA history
-Turning a one and only year starter into an SEC championship and SEC POTY
-the #1 overall NFL draft pick

Say what you will about Richt, but if there's ONE thing he is literally an expert in it's developing QBs.

Like others have said, defining what great implies having achieve would seem like a necessity. I'd say no, but the guy is definitely one of the top coaches in the nation.

I think Richt is a good coach who has probably already peaked at UGA. He really had things rolling in the early 2000's but was unlucky to never get to the NCG during that time. I do think though with the East being so weak he could sneak into the next couple SECCG's and get UGA over the hump, but this year showed that UGA is not ready to tango with the SEC west.

And with all of that talent he has ZERO championships.

I'd put him with Tubby... good, but can't get you the crystal ball. It's what you, as a fan base, want.
