Dead period means it isn't killing you. You'll likely hire during this time, or right after 1st of year. You'll still have a full month for the new OC/DC to get after keeping recruits.
Hell, I'm sure Chiz has worked on pitching AU and not Roof & Gus. I know Gus was part of the pitch, but I'm pretty sure Roof wasn't.
