Seriously, that's beyond idiotic.

It's a valid argument when your team is still really good and passes the eye test. Alabama didn't shy away from tough games. They play in the SEC and traveled to PSU. They beat the piss out of most teams they played and aren't any worse of a team just because those teams aren't as good.
