Quite simple really. Slive, being the financial genius that he is, calculated the enormous payoff for an all SEC title game. From there he set his plan in motion. Fearing LSU would not be able to withstand a loss and still climb back in the mix, he instructed the refs to let LSU win the game while keeping it close.
