If it was Miles calling this play, everyone would be saying what a moron he is for calling such a risky play this late in a tied game. But since it was The Great and Powerful Saban making the call, it was a very good call, and it would have worked if LSU's defense didn't pick up on it quickly.

Exactly.
If miles calls a HB pass, it's described as "quirky".
If Saban calls a HB/WR pass, it's described as "brilliant"

It was a risky call to try and open up the game. This game was so close a call like this if worked would have probably won them the game. I'm surprised Les didn't do anything outlandish at all this game. He played it close to the vest.

Stop being whiny. I would have called it a good play no matter who called it. Again the blame lies with the TE for not securing the ball. He allowed Reid to muscle him for the ball on the way down. Great play Reid.
TE Trust me I have no great affection for Saban or in awe of him. If you want to pin a bad decision on him it would be the long field goal tries rather than punting and playing for better field position.
