At no level of football is a gunner taught to run down the field and hit the returner without finding the ball. None.

Wade was running full speed, didn't think he had to slow down based on where the punt returner was positioned waiting for the ball, and the returner ran upfield at the last second trying to catch the ball on the run without calling for a fair catch. shite happens.

But yall go ahead and cry about it some more.

Gunner's are taught to watch the returner the entire trip down the field. You watch for a fair catch signal first, then watch for the action of catching the ball to time your hit with the hope of seperating the ball from the player.

Having played this position in high school and college, I did it quite a bit myself. You do not look back for the ball. You go by the returners movements. The kid came forward with a low body hunch, indicating he was in the catch ball process.

Wade did what he was taught to do.
