Proposal to fix officiating concerns

Why does each conference have its own officials? The NCAA should have total control. It's not like the rules are different from conference to conference. I always thought it was stupid in MLB that each league had its own umpires. Finally they brought all the umpires under MLB instead of the AL and NL.
I realize that travel is a big part of the reasoning but refs are still flying in for some of the games they call. I would just feel more comfortable if we had refs from other regions call the games.
It just looks bad if a ref resides in the state of the school he is officiating and makes a very questionable call. He might not be biased but it just doesn't reflect well on the conference. Why not eliminate those concerns and use refs from different regions?

Most of them are just from Alabama.

Yeah, but what happens when a ref from Oklahoma, Idaho, etc. calls a crucial game for the winner of the Alabama/LSU game and there are questionable calls that cost that team the game? All the conspiracy theorists would run around like crazy saying there is an anti-SEC bias going on.

don't forget the solution where one set of fans grows a sack and stops looking for someone to blame everytime something doesn't go their way.

That's because you only remember the bad calls against your team and forget the ones that went in your favor. It's called "confirmation bias," and it can be a real bitch.
