chicken shite

There's a time of year, maybe early fall, when some farmers get their fields fertilized using shavings from chicken houses. There's maybe a week when you can smell something like that.

I don't know if they even do that anymore around Fayetteville as a lot of the farms are gone, but I do remember that smell back in the day. Its not an all the time thing. Just a week or so a couple of times per year.

Springdale often smells like chicken feed, which is actually just grain/corn sitting in their silos. Its not shite.

Pine Bluff and Crossett smell like paper mills. Morrilton, too IIRC. I hardly every go down that way anymore, except for the occasional duck hunting trip.

Maybe that is what it was. I just remember asking our friends when we got to Springdale what we smelled on the interstate and they referenced chicken houses. I didn't smell it in Springdale or Fayetteville. I believe it was some time during the summer when we went.
