of too many teams having byes before they play Alabama and it will be adjusted for 2012.
So, Alabama forces two constant SEC dates in their schedule (Tennessee and Auburn) and then whines to have the rest of the SEC schedule around them?

We played 7 teams coming of byes last year. The next most was 2 teams coming off byes.

Like I said: You have two SEC dates set in stone every year, which is the main cause of this issue.
Does LSU play Ole Miss on Halloween week/weekend anymore? No.
RA'd myself to move this to the SEC Rant.

If you bitch enough to anyone...you'll get your way. At least that is what Alabama thinks.

You do realize that we aren't playing Tennessee on the third Saturday in October this year, right?
And everyone has a constant rival on the last week of the season. Except Vanderbilt I think

Up until a few years ago, Auburn didn't have a bye before the Iron Bowl. When the SEC picked up the 12th game and didn't give an extra week, our bye moved to the 11th week. Chizik said after he was hired that he wanted to get the bye week moved further up in the year. I think almost all Auburn fans agree, so you won't hear any complaining out of us about Alabama's whining.

the bye isn't the issue... playing two or three top notch teams in a row is an issue
Supposedly Saban's record coming off a bye is much worse than his overall regular season record... but I bet it is pretty solid the week after playing a directional state school
quote:
"Just so everybody knows, we did research on the last five years of all other 11 teams in the SEC and how they did when they had a bye week, and their record is 29-29," Saban said. "I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong, but the statistics kind of prove that it's not an advantage or disadvantage to have a bye week. It probably depends a lot on the circumstances."
LINK
Later in the article the writer attempts to insert opinion IMO... by mentioning 5 of the 8 saban/bama losses to that point were to opponents coming off bye weeks... but when you look at the games mentioned the five games were four games from the late season bama swoon in 2007... and the bowl game against Utah (a bowl game in this discussion? really?)

Schools normally schedule bye weeks before tougher games. That's why the record is skewed. There's no question it's an advantage.
And there's very little difference between a complete off week and playing a directional school in my opinion

JMO - it might be better to play a directional school... keeps you in more game rhythm

I think all three of our losses came to teams coming off their byes. But Bama had theres the week before LSU, and pretty much a bye before AU, with a thursday night game vs Ga St.
