Let me slow it down for ya. McElroy 43 smart, Mallett 26 average, newton 21 dumb arse.

The Patriots got a hell of a deal. They likely either groom him several years to replace Brady or trade him for something much better than the 3rd round pick they spent on him. Either way it is an absolute win/win for the Pats. If he flames out then they have only lost a 3rd rounder and maybe a million bucks.

I'm also betting this draft slide will be a wakeup call to Mallett and he eventually becomes a starting NFL QB.

He was the most talented pocket passer in this draft and I think the drug/behavior issues with him are ridiculously overrated. He can only blame himself for doing the drugs in the first place. They cost him about 40 million in guaranteed money.

The thread wouldn't last 3 responses before it turned into a complete dumpster fire but I would like to have an honest discussion about where Mallett ranks among his SEC QB peers over the last decade/All-Time.

I'm not an NFL guy and this isn't an NFL board so I never care to go beyond SEC years and I don't really care that he's never thrown for a yard in the league.

His numbers say he's one of the best the SEC has ever seen.

but, you know, Cam has no glaring personal issues

Cam has been under more scrutiny and a bigger microscope than almost any player I can remember. After all this his biggest knock is a "fake smile" and an idiot dad. Everyone who has been around Cam personally loves the guy, but rival fans on a message board know everything?

But my homerism chooses to ignore that most people probably only remember him for choking in the clutch, which might just be the truth.

I think Mallett has a big time arm, can make all the throws, and has good accuracy on intermediate to long throws. I'm not in love with the way he throws short passes, but that's something he can work on while developing. I also am not a big fan of his footwork in and outside the pocket. He has questionable decision making skills on and off the field. On the field, specifically in high pressure situations. I think Mallett needs a few years to develop and he got them. He needs to show that he can make the right decisions off the field and continue to progress his game.

Ignorant old white man syndrome. Let me guess, he's also the same idiot who spent his 8th pick of the draft on the 3rd round talent Locker.

Bilichick is a smart man, getting a better QB than Jacksonville, Tennesse, and Minnesota, who all spent high draft picks on QB's who never ever ever smoked weed and are not "like Eminem." We'll see who made the better decision in about 5 years when Tennessee, Carolina, Minnesota, Washington, and San Fran are still trying to make the playoffs and the Patriots are still going to Super Bowls.

But hey, it will be worth it for those teams b/c they won't have to deal with all those "Eminem issues." What a load of bullshite.

He needs a couple more years to mature. That's it. Grow up, swallow your pride, and "learn". That's easier for someone say 25+ to do than a 22 year old.

Ladies, unwind your panties.

The NFL exec isn't concerned about weed, it's that je lied about other drugs and that they don't believe him. Feel free to give mallet the benefit of the doubt but nobody wants to take someone at their word when they are paying that kind of money
