In 2006, it was better. We had a solid team but lacked coaching ability. We won 10 games and represented the West well. We were ranked in the top 10 for a lot of the year then lost 3 in a row. Ended up in one of the best bowl games outside of the BCS. That year > at large BCS birth IMO.

This past year we were 2nd in the SEC in overall standings finishing at 10-2, 6-2 in SEC play. We beat the East division winner by 20 points. We got an at large BCS bowl birth.

2010 was a better year, with a better bowl than 1995 & 2002. Just because you make it to Atlanta does not mean you had a great year. We had a great year last year. Much better than two of the years we went to Atlanta.

Little disconnect in your logic here, but I understand what you're saying and I agree.

In 06, LSU didn't play for the SEC title, but got a good BCS game and dismantled Notre Dame. I think that probably played a part in our 2007 BCS championship run. We lost the final game to Arky, but still played in the SEC championship.

I think every athlete would love to play in a conference championship, but objectively, it's probably better to get an at-large bid and win that bowl than go to Atlanta and lose.

05 and 06 LSU were really similar seasons and I'm not sure I value one a lot more than the other... although 05 LSU lost to UGA in the SEC CCG and then thumped Notre Dame in a BCS bowl

06 LSU didn't make the SEC CCG (because they played Florida in the regular season) and thumped Miami in the Peach Bowl

Very similar seasons. Two losses... dominating bowl wins over name programs

And neither was a SEC or National Championship season
