I can't believe these places are still open in Oxford. Pizza Den is fantastic.

And is Oasis/Bad Boyz the place that used to be the Tiki/Blue Marlin? Coop is in that building now?

Did anyone list any for Birmingham? I'm taking a girl there on a date this Saturday and I'd like to find a cool place that not many people know about.

There's a bbq place by the UAB hospital called Mo's. Really neat place with a cool atmosphere. Has a deck and live music on the weekends.

However, you might not wanna do bbq for a date which is understandable.

I'm thinking about going to Rojo. It looks good, has anyone eaten there?

Gave the Big Star plate lunch a try today. Not bad for $5

I work about 5 minutes from Rojo.

It's good food, probably a good spot for a date. Definitely more of a bar atmosphere than a restaurant. If it's nice outside, you can sit out on the patio, though.

What did you get? And you've gotta go a few times because their menu varies day to day.

Chicken spaghetti, mashed potatoes and gravy, and some type of casserole. Pretty much just got what the people in front of me ordered since they seemed to be regulars. Emilighs was packed and I was in a hurry so it worked out well.

Where is this new location? I haven't been to Oxford since the Egg Bowl so I'm sure I haven't seen it.

If you are lookin at Rib Cage from the street, it is just to the right. It is in the spot where that Fotino's Deli was that lasted 5 weeks.

Great spot brosive, make it a high priority when you come back. When will your next trip to Oxford be?

I think Rojo would be fine. It's reasonably priced and the food is good.

I don't know yet. I've got a lot going on this summer including a trip to California so I'm trying to save up as much money as I can. I do plan to be back down that way to visit family in the near future though, and if Oxford's a part of the trip I'll hit Emileigh's.

As far as hidden gems go for Athens, I'd throw in Kelley's off of Lumpkin. Great Jamaican food, not expensive and it's fresh. They have good sweet tea too.

May be showing my age and time spent away from the awesomeness that is South LA/BR cooking but I miss that place. Is it gone for good? Smothered chicken... mmmmmmm!

ETA: I don't remember them on West Chimes, I remember a shotgun shack next to Tigerland. (Yes I am old as frick in Internet years).
