Oh, I agree with you. I'm not a drinker, so I'm one of the ones who sits by and shakes his head when drunk people make fools of themselves.

That being said, though, I realize that alcohol clouds judgment, and I can appreciate it when someone is man enough to admit that they got out of line while drunk and tries to apologize for his behavior.

What I won't do is beat him over the head with his own apology. That's just a low blow. Sometimes it just takes one or two learning experiences to change a person so that he won't do it next time, as you said. Hopefully he'll think twice next time.
