It seems that Auburn officials are pretty confident in the case. The key words "Unfortunately" is important when said "Unfortunately, we can not speak on that matter" makes me feel better. To me, it says that they wish they could say why they aren't in trouble, which the NCAA won't let them do at this point.

I think you are way over-reading the word "unfortunately" - and definitely spinning it to mean something positive when the opposite might be true

I can't see any rational reason why Auburn couldn't be more forthcoming if they didn't have anything to hide - someone help me out here

Cam Newton resists temptation for money could be a nice segment added to his Heisman story.

Wow is that a rosy view of the situation - IMO his candidacy for the Heisman just went from slam dunk to highly unlikely. And the idea that someone was asking for money on his behalf without him (or his father) doing part of the asking is kinda

Auburn doesn't have a choice about whether to stay quiet or speak.

There is a current NCAA investigation into this matter (whether it involves Auburn or not). IMO AU has been ordered, as a member NCAA institution, to remain quiet. Especially the head coach.
That is why there has been "anonymous sources from within the athletic dept" that have been leaking info.
