I know at ND, certain student managers get a full ride. That's essentially a $50,000/year job. I don't know exactly how much he got, but it might have been a nice chump of change. To walk off and risk losing it when someone's telling you it's safe...

I don't mean for this to sound bad (though it might come out that way), but at least he died doing something he loved.
