If I want to carry a gun on me while I'm walking down the street, I will carry a gun with while I'm walking down the street. Do you get uncomfortable when you see a cop walking down the street with a Glock strapped to his hip? Of course not! You exclaim. He's a cop. Why should I fear a man in uniform? He's a person too, that's why. Just because he carries a badge doesn't mean he isn't a bad guy. But he has a license to carry a fire arm and more than likely he will never pull a gun on someone who doesn't deserve it. Same goes for someone who isn't a cop but carries a concealed weapon permit. More than likely they aren't going to pull that gun unless they feel threatened. I don't see the big deal and your confusion on why people do this doesn't really make any sense.
