I'm not a staunch Richt defender. I think WG took that role in this thread. I'm not a hater either, I think HBDT clearly took that role. I'm somewhere in the middle.

I think his fall since '05 is due to a myriad of things:

1. The conference/Tech undoubtedly became tougher.
2. BVG left as DC/LB coach (which contributed to the discipline slip).
3. A poor LB coach hire.
4. S & C Program falling behind the times.
5. Poor OL recruiting.
6. Most importantly, took him forever to fire the obvious problem coaches.

I mean it can't all be attributed to the coaches around the league all of a sudden passing him by. If anybody actually believes that then aren't very smart.

We started losing to Fat Phil even though Richt owned him early in his tenure. He beat Brooks for 3 consecutive years and then loses 2 of the last 4. Did they morph into amazing coaches overnight? No. He's 2-3 against Saban head to head, 2-1 vs Miles, 4-1 vs Spurrier. His problem was and still is Florida.

If he beats UF in '02 or either of the last 2 years then we're not having this discussion.

IMO his worst coaching jobs were '04 and '08, while his best were '02, '05, and '07.

1. We're still 3-1 against Tech since 05
2. Has now been rectified
3. Has now been rectified
4. Ehhh
5. I'd say it's more poor luck. We're getting good linemen. Guys that other people have been after as well. And we have one of the best OL coaches in the conference. He was the man behind those maulers at LSU, and found an unknown Ben Jones and turned him into a beast. Our problem has been an inexplicable rash of injuries at the position, which isn't Richt's fault.
6. I agree, but like the other problems that has now been rectified.

People are so quick to point to the causes of the downfall of the UGA program, and most don't realize that all of those problems are no longer on the staff. In the past couple years we have had MAJOR problems, that is obvious, but the proper steps have been taken to correct it.

Oh, and if I post in this thread again at about 2 or 3, I apologize in advance if I say something stupid because I can already see myself getting hammered drunk in the next few hours.
