More quality in this Arkansas class than any before

% of Arkansas recruits with 5.6 or higher rating from Rivals:
2010 - 84% (16/19)-Petrino
2009 - 77% (24/31)-Petrino
2008 - 38% (10/26)-Some sort of Nutt/Petrino combo
2007 - 48% (13/27)
2006 - 32% (7/22)
2005 - 39% (9/23)
2004 - 32% (8/25)
The average star ranking for this class is a 3.0, much higher than over 14 teams listed ahead of Arkansas due to volume of signees. The class was always going to be small and aimed at providing depth, with kids being told to expect to redshirt.
A 5.6 Rivals rating is basically a middle of the pack recruit and anything below that is below average. Right now we have 16 out of our 20 rated players at 5.6 or higher. So, 84% of this class is considered to be above average. To put that in perspective last year (considered by many as our best class ever) we had 77% at a 5.6 or higher rating.
A 5.8 rating is a 4* player. Arkansas has signed eight 5.7 ratings. So, eight players are 0.1 from a fourth star, for what that's worth.
The main difference this year compared to all the other years is that we don't have the 4* and 5* superstar names at the top of the list that greatly exaggerate the Rivals team rankings. Instead Petrino is just putting together another top to bottom solid class and adding depth that has been neglected in years past as shown in these numbers.

I did not realize how bad Arky's recruiting has been. Looks like it still has a long way to go. Hopefully Petrino will close strong and take some recruits away from some Texas schools.

Dude, you can't use the whole "We have x amount of players that are .1 point from being a 4-star, cause so can everyone else.
This class from a Star's standpoint doesn't have the high end talent. Just face it. On paper and from a national standpoint we don't have a highly regarded class. 3-4 years from now people see these names and be like WOW how did we miss out on this guy.
It's getting pretty old that we Hog fans keep trying to justify this class to other SEC teams. It makes us look dumb, like we are trying to get approval from our big brother. Just be confident knowing that this class is going to be good and it really doesn't matter what others think.

I'm not naive to the lack of high-end talent.
What the SEC doesn't see though is that Arkansas used to sign a few 4 stars, maybe a 5 star, then load up on 2 star diamonds in the rough or very low rated 3 stars.
By the numbers, this class has the highest quality players, from top to bottom, that we have signed since player ratings were developed.

another thing is that rivals ranks a 5.5 as the same as 5.7 in team rankings

I would have to disagree. Last year we singed only 1-2star recruit per rivals. 21-3stars, 8-4stars and 1-5star. That was the best class top-to-bottom, on paper, we have ever had.

Is this the standard response for Ark homers everywhere? I've seen this posted on like 3 different boards all by different folks. Is this the common defensive mechanism to defend the class of suck?

WooPig, good information but you are wasting your time. All the message board experts on here know that the Hogs' class "sucks" this year so let them keep believing our class has no talent.
What's going to be fun is when the Hogs start beating these higher recruiting ranked teams on a regular basis, beginning next year. They will be perplexed because the recruiting experts said that's not possible.

84% of this class is 5.6 or better (16 of 19). We've never had that, to include last year.

I'm ok with the class. I didnt like losing Armand Williams but it doesnt hurt that much. Our special teams is horrible so losing Russ is a big blow to me. I always said there was only one guy the staff was on that I thought was a reach and that was Deonte Welch. His decommittment really doesnt bother me.
We need Jones to sign and I say we offer the Watson DL out of Florida as well and I will be content.

had the players got ranked an extra .1 we would be top 25 in recruiting. 9 4*

Yes.
You have the one's that say this is the worst class ever, then the one's that try and defend it to everyone and tweak information to suit their needs but then doesn't take into account that by tweaking info it tweaks everyone's info. Then there are the people that are not ecstatic about the class but think that in 3-4 years it's going to be a very good one.

You are right Tuubnderturd1100. The Hogs have zero chance against the Paper Tigers next year. I just wonder what you will think if the unthinkable happens? What if the Hogs take another game from the Tigers next year in LR to make it 3 out of the last 4? Impossible!

Sounds like more of a defense mechanism and not even defending the recruiting class this time. I don't know why some Ark fans just cant admit this class is well below SEC standards.
