Which polls count? ....

Mississippi State, at 5-7, finished #23 in the nation for this past football season. https://www.nutshellsports.com/ncaafb.html
Does that count? What makes this computer rating any different than Sagarin, Houlgate, Litkenhous, Billingsly, Dunkel, or any other math-based system that teams use to claim rankings or even national championships. At least the modern ones use computers and not slide rules. Should ANY math-based polls count?
Does it matter if the poll was retroactive? I know Kentucky now claims a 1950's National Championship calculated by Sagarin within the past 10 years, and there are several types of retroactive human polls out there, too.
What about when polls finished before the bowls were played? Is it known that because the major polls were finished that some top teams approached the bowls differently (played freshmen, put in new offenses for the next year, etc.) and didn't concentrate on practicing to win the bowl. If the major polls were done after the regular season, should a bowl loss be held against the them?

Well it shows one thing. The person who created that poll is completely retarded.

Actually, the NCAA "recognizes" only certain ones, so simply because one guy with a computer formula says so, doesn't make it the case. That's why you have Tennessee claiming 6 and Bama claiming 13 even though not all of them were BCS/AP/UPI/Coaches polls.
Also, the NCAA doesn't recognize anything retroactive (except for Notre Dame). Is it a pain? Yeah. The easiest way to fix everything would be 1) don't recognize any retroactive titles, and 2) recognize only ONE for each year being the predominant, most widely respected of the time such as the AP was before the BCS.
