All I know is that before Vince won the BCS, people were ready to have Mackdaddy's head in Austin. Even now, they usually expect him to lose at least one big game a season.
I think $5 million is a lot to pay someone for that.

Didn't Saban have same reputation prior to going undefeated this season? That he would drop a game he should not every year?

With the exception of this season at Bama, the same can be said of Saban.
