The ref tried to push Hitt off once before he threw the flag. If he hadn't ignored the ref he would have maybe been a couple of seconds behind but he wouldn't have lost 15 yards... or possibly have gottne a delay of game call on PSU. I don't feel sorry for Hitt. Play disciplined.

With 39 seconds to play after Jordan Jefferson’s 10-yard scramble stopped the clock with the ball at Penn State’s 49-yard-line, LaFell snared a slip screen pass from Jefferson and carved out 4 yards to the 45.
quote:

The rest of the Tigers scrambled up to the new line of scrimmage, but LaFell couldn’t get up — pinned on the soggy Citrus Bowl surface by Bowman.
quote:

“I was looking right at the ref and he was telling that dude to get off me,” LaFell said. “He told me later he was trying to spot the ball, but I don’t know how he was trying to spot the ball when the guy was laying on top of me.
quote:

“That dude (Bowman) was just rolling around on top of me. And then he threw the flag.”
quote:

The flag arrived because LSU left guard Lyle Hitt grabbed Bowman and dragged him off LaFell. Hitt was called for a personal foul. Bowman wasn’t flagged for anything.
quote:

“We had no timeouts and the clock was still running,” Jefferson said. “We tried to hurry up and get a quick call and the linebacker is laying on top of (LaFell). Lyle was just trying to get the guy off.”
quote:

Added Ciron Black, like Hitt a senior playing his final game, “I thought it was a bad call. The guy was literally holding (LaFell) down and wouldn’t let him up. The ref wouldn’t call anything and as soon as Lyle pulled him, he threw the flag. We all felt like doing the same exact thing Lyle did. He just did what he thought was right. I don’t think he did anything wrong.
quote:

“Time was clicking off the clock and we were ready to go and (Bowman) would not let him up. That’s the refs’ job to handle that and they didn’t.”
quote:

Bowman didn’t mince words, saying he meant to lay on LaFell as long as he could.
quote:

“My reasoning was to let the time run out,” Bowman said. “I call that very smart football. He didn’t even try to get up in a hurry. It’s having your head in the game.”
quote:

Bowman even defended Hitt. Bowman said what he was doing “wasn’t a good thing.” He also said he didn’t think Hitt deserved the flag
quote:

“He acted like he knew what I was doing and wanted me to get off his teammate,” Bowman said. “I thought the flag was against me at first for laying on him.”

Where in this did I say it was correct to not call the delay of game? I didn't.

I said Hitt should play disciplined.

Hitt should have been more disciplined. When the ref shoves you off... maybe you should get off.
