With Carl Torbush going to Kansas to be the DC for new Kansas head man Turner Gill's staff, who will be the next Defensive Coordinator in Starkville?
In a perfect world I would have our former DC and current DC Ellis Johnson back to State, but thats not going to happen. I think that Mullen will go after a young coach with a SEC background and solid recruiting ties.

You'll be better off without Torbush. His claim to fame was his 2002 defense at Alabama. I could have looked good with all those future NFL players it had. Ten starters played in the NFL, another in the CFL.

I agree with you on that point. Mullen and Torbush butted heads early in the year especially after the Auburn. In the Middle of the season Torbush went from the pressbox to the sidelines (supposedly on the request of Mullen) I hope that we bring in somebody who will do a great job.
As for the Joe Lee Dunn comment, all joking aside, ole Joe Lee had some solid defenses in Starkville back in the day.

I would dial up Tuberville... No joke...

I bet we could get Tyrone Nix from Ole Miss if we went after him.

Either way I hope we get someone that can get our defense back to where it should be.

ETA: Tyrone Nix turned down the UF job so that he could be the DC at State.

I hope this doesn't effect recruiting.

I'm sure that Mullen had expected he would need to find a new DC anyway.

Torbush was average at best.

I agree and bumping heads with Mullen likely didn't help things.

He's just an experienced guy that Mullen brought in to establish credibility.

This shouldnt do anything to our current recruiting. Torbush, according to the rivals ratings on Ast coaches, was recruiting the fewest players of any ast coach on the Mississippi State staff.

Guess that he was HC at UNC or that his defenses under Mack were considered some of the country's best are not anything to be worth mentioning. Also I guess that you can only accomplish things at Bama.
